About the Journal
City: History, Culture, Society («Місто: історія, культура, суспільство») is a peer-reviewed academic journal published biannually. It features original research articles, review essays, book reviews, and additional materials in the field of urban studies.
The journal was founded in 2016 by the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Faculty of History of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
MICS serves as an interdisciplinary platform that brings together scholars of the city from a wide range of disciplines, including history, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, architecture, and urban planning. The journal is committed to advancing urban studies in Ukraine and integrating them into the international academic landscape.
Mission and Focus
We aim to:
- develop and institutionalize urban studies in Ukraine;
- build an international network of researchers working on urban topics;
- create a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on the city as a complex historical, cultural, and social phenomenon.
Aims
The journal’s primary aim is to advance urban studies in Ukraine as an independent field of research, to integrate it into the international academic context, and to provide a platform for collaboration among scholars from different disciplines.
Objectives
The journal pursues the following objectives:
- to publish high-quality original research that expands knowledge about the city;
- to contribute to the development of a Ukrainian school of urban studies and its engagement with the global academic community;
- to provide an open, transparent, and non-commercial platform for the dissemination of scholarly research.
Languages of Publication
The journal publishes in Ukrainian and English. Manuscripts in other languages may be considered at the discretion of the editorial board.
Open Access
MICS is a non-commercial open-access journal. All content is freely available to readers, and no publication fees are charged to authors (diamond open access model).
